Monday Mindful Moments: The Color of Calm

Mindfulness: It’s the ability to be aware of what’s going on right here, right now.

You may already know how much I believe in the power of mindfulness. That’s why, beginning today, I plan on regularly giving you simple ways you can begin learning how to incorporate the awesomeness of mindfulness into your life.

New to Mindfulness?

Read my previous blog posts about mindfulness here.

Ever notice when you’re in the car, your mind may be anywhere but the actual process of driving? Like, have you arrived at your destination without remembering how you even got there? It’s actually a fairly common thing and an example of NOT being mindful.

Mindfulness Practice in the Car

Here’s an easy way to practice mindfulness while you’re in the car. I like this one because everyone rides in a car. It also can help manage the anxiety you may be facing if you’re on the way to a dreaded appointment or not feeling thrilled about meeting with your in-laws.

Take Notice to the Color Yellow

Seriously, be aware of anything you see that is yellow. What does this do? It keeps you in the present while driving or riding in the car. You’re focusing on the color yellow, maintaining your awareness of driving (or riding) and NOT about the dreadful meeting, or what you need to make for dinner, or whatever. You’re in the present moment.

Yellow is also a calming color-

and why it’s used in certain waiting rooms or high-stress environments.

Time to Practice Mindfulness

Now, go on whatever errand you have to run, or show up to that family function, you will be in a better headspace, even if it’s something you don’t want to do.

Mindfulness Activities don’t need to be complicated.

You don’t need to be an expert either.
