Grief: How Couples Therapy Can Help
Grief: How Couples Therapy Can Help
Being in a relationship has its challenges, but grieving together makes it even tougher sometimes. As a DBT therapist, finding the best fit for my clients who are seeking couples therapy, can be tough.
Welcome to another edition of my guest blogging series, where I’m talking with awesome business owners and mental health providers from Harrisburg, Lancaster, York, Lebanon, and Philadelphia, who are all here to provide their background and expertise in helping you deal with anxiety and relationship issues. As DBT therapist specializing in borderline personality disorder treatment and therapy for anxiety and trauma counseling, it’s not uncommon for one of my clients to need couples therapy.
Today, I’m featuring Leah Glass, a couples therapist, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, who specializes in grief counseling.
I first got to talk with Leah over a year ago and discovered she has a passion for helping people manage grief. I love how knowledgeable she is and the ease she has with delving into what, for some, is a very difficult topic. Leah currently works for a group practice in Harrisburg, PA.
Leah received her M.A. in counseling from Liberty University and her M.S.W. in social work from Capella Univerisity. She is a driven young woman who not only completed two master’s degrees but who just recently self-published her first book. When she isn’t with her clients, she can be found in the company of her husband and two children or providing her expertise as a registered yoga instructor.
Let’s get the interview with Leah Glass, Harrisburg Area couples therapist started!
Why did you decide to provide grief counseling in Harrisburg, PA?
At the time I was living in Harrisburg and found a private practice that was very close to my home. It was a dynamic practice and I was able to have exposure to a lot of different clients.
As a therapist in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, what kind of specialty mental health services do you provide?
Currently, I specialize in couples and marriage counseling as well as grief counseling.
How does being a Harrisburg, PA couples therapist, specializing in grief, help people who struggle with anxiety and relationship problems?
Anxiety and relationship problems are things I see on a regular basis. I view my job as being someone who is creating a relationship with the client and then partnering with them on figuring out ways to manage their symptoms in a way that they feel comfortable with. Many clients feel like a holistic approach is important to them so I attempt to find ways to incorporate all of the things going on within their lives and then focus on what areas they want to see a change in.
Who do you love working with as a therapist in Harrisburg?
I love helping people in general. Within grief, it is really rewarding to be a safe place for clients who do not feel like they can talk to other people about their grief journey. It is incredibly rewarding to be able to validate people in that specific space.
What can people expect during their first appointment with you?
I am not a “stuffy” therapist. I want to make people feel comfortable and heard. I want to listen to your issues and then assess what approach might work best for you. I enjoy being dynamic and using different theories and practices to address whatever my clients are going through.
What do you wish people knew about working with you and the services you offer in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania?
All therapy is not the same. Many clients who have seen therapists before have an idea of what it is like and often they did not feel like the experience was helpful. I feel it is incredibly important to make a meaningful connection with people in order to create a lasting relationship and start the change process.
