Finding a Counselor or Therapist in Annville, PA

Looking for a Counselor or Therapist in Annville, PA

Annville offers a beautiful, historic, small college town appeal. It has been identified as a safe and pleasant place to live. However, "life" still happens and you may have a need for extra support and help. If you are looking for a mental health counselor, therapist, or psychotherapist I'd like to help you find the best therapist to support you.

Here are some quick tips for finding a therapist.

1. Ask Around

Talk to friends and family to see if they like their own therapist or if they know of someone they've heard good things about. If they don't like their therapist or keep going to that therapist because "their rates are cheap", take a pass.

Having low session fees and providing good therapy do not necessarily co-mingle. With that in mind, you want to find a counselor who is good at what they do, and not chosen primarily based on the convenience or low cost.

2. Shop Around for a Therapist

There are a variety of online therapist listings available and it can be overwhelming to see a list of psychotherapists and counselors in your area. It is important to pay attention to how they describe what they do. Does the counselor's blurb “speak to you” and describe your pain? Make sure to look for a therapist who isn't focused on selling themselves, but on how they can help you with your specific needs.

3. Specialties Do Matter

Be wary of mental health professionals who specialize in everything -- someone who has a long list of "specialties" or "specializes" in so many areas simply cannot be the one person for all problems. Look for a counselor who has focused, clear expertise because more than likely you can believe that that therapist knows his/her "sh*t" on those particular issues, and will be passionate about helping you.

4. Call Them

It's fairly common for someone to have a counselor's contact information written down or saved, with no call ever being placed. You need to actually make the call to get a better idea if that counselor is a good match for your needs.

5. Use Your Intuition

Most therapists and counselors will have some sort of consultation prior to scheduling an actual therapy session. Pay attention to how you feel when talking with the counselor.

It's normal to feel nervous when first picking up the phone to reach out for help, but notice how comfortable you feel. Is this someone who you could picture sitting across from and talking with regarding your personal problems? If not, it's unlikely you'll feel any different when you go in person to meet with your therapist.

These are just a few tips to help you get started. I hope this helps you begin your search for the best psychotherapist, therapist, or counselor in Annville, PA to meet your needs. I
